Upcoming Events!!!!

Here are the events scheduled for 2023.  Give me a call if you would like more information or want to sign up for one.

If you wonder where to find more ride information I suggest you check out the Carolina Creepers facebook page or go to weeklyrides.com   Both are great places, Creepers mainly being for recumbents and Weekly lists rides from all over the SE.

Tour de Low Country 25 March
A great ride in conjunction with the Colleton County Rice Festival in Walterboro, SC.  Lots of events surrounding the festival and a variety of flat routes for cycling through the SC Low Country.  Rice plantations and an abundance of beautiful sites along the routes.  HTW has up to 10 spots here for registrants.  Make sure you contact us if you are interested.

Charlotte City Ride 1 April
Come and explore the big city with HTW.  We will ride mostly on greenways with a few detours on streets when required.  Lunch will be provided at 1st Ward Park uptown.  From there we will follow the light rail through South End stopping right where we bwgan at the Pineville Mall.  Total mileage is about 30 miles.  You will see a lot of Charlotte and ride with some great friends.

Smoky Mtn Recumbent Rally 16 & 17 May
This rally is a great way to meet and interact with the greater recumbent community of riders from across the country.  HTW will sponsor 12 Warriors for the rally (room and registration).  The rides are relatively mild and the scenery can not be beat.  There is an existing facebook page if you want to see what folks are planning and any extra events happening.  There will be vendors and maybe some fun stuff to do Tuesday afternoon and the Rally wraps up with a great dinner Wednesday evening.  Prior to the start of the event HTW will escort a ride on the 15th at 1 pm from Foothills Parkway down Butterfly Gap Road and into Townsend Tn.  After the Wednesday ride, Cade's Cove, several of us will also ride up and over Rich Mountain back into Townsend and everyone is invited.

Silver Comet Rail Trail 27 & 28 May
This is one of my favorite trails in the SE.  From Smyrna GA to Anniston AL this is a paved rail trail that is a blast to ride.  Our plan is to stay at the middle of the GA section at Rockmart.  We will stay in the EconoLodge.  The current plan is to ride west on day 1 from Rockmart to the AL state line, 50 miles total.  There will be a sag vehicle at the border with a trailer if some want to return to the hotel.  Day 2 we will travel East towards Atl.  The stop point has yet to be determined so stay tuned for that.  There will be a lunch stop but that is all we know right now.  HTW is planning this but it is not budgeted for lodging so make sure you get your own reservations in quickly as we are going to have loads of recumbent friends with us there.

Tour de Elvis   ???
We did this ride last year and got drenched in our finest Elvis regalia.  The date has not been published yet but I will post it as soon as I get it.  The routes are fairly hilly but got a kick out of dressing up like the Kings with Paul and Kay and Jane as Priscillas.  HTW will sponsor 10 registrations for this ride so give ua a call if you are interested.

Tour de Turns 26 August
This Charlotte ride is as it is named.  Loads of turns and hills through mostly residential areas of S Charlotte.  We have done this ride for the last few years and enjoyed it.  HTW will sponsor 10 registrations for this ride.  Give us a call early as this fills quickly.

NC Guard to the Beach   ???
Great but very demanding ride from NC National Guard Armory in Raleigh to the NC Coast.  Three days of riding with high mileage.  Last ride was 94 miles day 1, 85 miles day 2 and 38 miles day 3.  You must prepare for this ride so if you are interested start on your work now to be prepared.  We do not know this years route yet so mileage might be different than previous rides.  HTW will sponsor 10 registrations for this ride.  That will not include lodging but we stop at armorys and you are welcome to stay there on cots or get a hotel room in the area where they will shuttle riders to at the end of the day and bring you back the next morning.  Traditionally this ride has been at the end of September or the first of October.

HTW 14th Annual Event 27 & 28 October
Our premier event of every year.  This is the 2 day ride in the Charlotte, Mint Hill NC Area.  Day 1 is an escorted ride through the heart of the city with stops at 1st Ward School for Performing Arts, Charlotte fine Arts Museum, BOA Stadium, Freedom Park, and a ride along the Little Sugar Creek Greenway.  Day 2 is a multi route ride from Mint Hill through SE Counties.  These routes are just beautiful and the cycling community that joins us from the Charlotte Area are wonderful.  HTW will sponsor 30 riders with hotel rooms and food for the 3 days you will be here with us.  To keep within our budget we are asking you to fill double occupancy for the rooms.  If you are coming alone we will help pair you up with another Veteran.  Again, this can fill quickly so call and let us know if you are interested.

Festivelo 9, 10, 11, &12 November
Great ride in Walterboro that uses some of the same routes as the Rice Festival in Walterboro, SC.  They celebrate Veterans and usually give us a very good price for the event.  All 4 days have planned rides and every evening has a party going on somewhere locally.  This is not a sponsored event by HTW but it is a great ride to attend.
