May 24, 2017 By honorthewarriors The Rally has come and gone leaving great memories, renewed friendships and new friendships. The mountains of Tennessee were once again a fantastic place to spend a few days with some wonderful people. We arrived in Marysville on Thursday with just enough time to get registered for the Friday ride. The ride left from the Tremont Lodge in Townsend at 0830 and headed down stream toward Coulter Bridge. Jane and I were about 20 minutes behind due to an early mechanical failure of the tandem. We still had a good time and the ride was as it has always been a pleasant and peaceful ride along the river. The afternoon lectures were very entertaining and informative. Tom Flohr talked about the recent cycling show in Europe and trends in recumbent cycling. Maria Parker gave a great talk about her adventures and motivation. She is a very talented woman and will continue to do great things. I really liked listening to her speak. Maria Parker setting the 24-hour world record on the Cruzbike Vendetta recumbent bicycle Friday afternoon several of us made the ride to Tremont Nature Preserve and thoroughly enjoyed the fast roll back to the campgrounds. I will do this ride every time I am in the area. It is not long and the gentle grade up is quickly forgotten with the speedy coast back down. I have always said that if you pedal on the way down it is only because you want to, it is really not needed. Saturday came early and I think there were hundreds of cyclists waiting for the gate to open at Cades Cove. The ride was great staying next to my friend Glenn. The Cove is just indescribably beautiful this time of year but with that many people there were few animal sightings over the 11 miles. Deb’s video The Rally ended with a dinner at the Lodge and after filling our bellies and saying goodbyes we closed the book on another SMRR. John helping out a new friend Share this:
